Vaginismus treatment
Vaginismus treatment is available for women that suffer from vaginismus. Vaginismus, or vaginism is a sexual disorder characterized by involuntary spasms of the vagina muscles. Women with vaginismus are not able to engage any kind of vaginal penetration, such as sexual intercourse, insertion of tampons or penetration during gynecological examinations. It is a condition caused by the involuntary reflex of the pubococcygeus muscle which makes the vagina tense suddenly. In most cases, penetration is possible but with pain. However there are more severe cases in which penetration is completely impossible. In any of these cases, women should look for vaginismus help at specialized doctors because it is curable.
Vaginismus help should be sought in order to establish what is causing the condition and treat it because the condition will not cure by itself. Treatment for vaginismus is different depending on the underlying cause. Vaginismus treatment may include psychological therapy, especially for women with primary vaginismus. This type of vaginismus may be triggered by an attempted sexual abuse, domestic violence, having been taught that sex is immoral. Primary vaginismus is also associated with fear of pain during the first penetration. Primary vaginismus cure means normally to take care of the psychological issue either with the help of a therapist, either on their own. Treatment for vaginismus may also be physical, meaning desensitization with vaginal dilators. In this type of treatment, the dilators have the shape of a phallus and their sizes increase gradually as the woman progresses. Currently, doctors are using Dysport (a type of Botox) to treat vaginismus. This newly described treatment proved to be efficiently used at the same time with vaginal dilation, curing most of the cases (90%), with no complications or recurrences.
Vaginismus is a serious sexual problem due to the inability of the women suffering from it to have sexual intercourse with their partners. It can become a real issue in the couple and may lead to emotional problems for both women and men. Vaginismus cure exists, so the condition may be reversed with the adequate treatment but it is very important that the woman understands when the condition was reversed so she can relax and enjoy intercourse. Most of the women are still waiting for the pain even after the underlying causes were removed. However, most women with vaginismus are able to engage in different sexual activities besides sexual penetration. Sometimes, the sexual partners can have difficulties in understanding that the woman avoids intercourse because of her pain and emotional distress. So, vaginismus may become a real issue in a woman’s life on long term. Women who suffer from dyspareunia are more likely to get vaginismus. Also, society’s expectations regarding women’s sexuality has recently been proven to have a great impact on women suffering from vaginismus.
Vaginismus treatment is available for any of its sufferer and once the cause has been indentified, the condition may be cured, fact that can improve their sexual lives and the relationships with their sexual partners.
